World AIDS Day

The 2011 theme for World AIDS Day is “Getting to Zero.” Today, President Obama will speak at an event hosted by the ONE Campaign and (RED).

The stigma associated with HIV has softened over the years because of open dialogue and awareness about this disease which crosses all socio-economic, racial, and lifestyle preference lines.  It affects us all.   Please do not become vulnerable by exposing yourself to the body fluids of others - because intimate contact isn't the only form of transmission.  Even though great strides have been made to prolong the lives of those stricken with the disease, we must remember that it still exists and govern ourselves accordingly by talking about it, protecting ourselves during intimate contact EVERY TIME, talking about it again, and continuing to educate ourselves and our children about HIV and AIDS as well as other sexually transmitted diseases.

If you do not know your status, PLEASE get tested.  It is a good policy to incorporate HIV testing in with your annual physical examinations.  Do not be afraid, there are trained individuals available to help you.  If you need to---call me.  I will be there for you.

Weaves

Having hair weaves sewn into the hair by either the use of a braid, link or other technique oftentimes is uncomfortable but should not hurt.  If you experience pain during a service, let your technician know immediately.  The pain will only get worse as time goes on and can possibly cause traction alopecia - which can lead to permanent hair loss.
